Certain sounds from an air conditioner are quite common. But when the sounds you hear from your air conditioner is quite unusual and uncommon you will have to get in touch with an HVAC expert. This is because the unusual sounds indicate that the AC is facing certain problems and the problems need to be solved. So, let us try and understand the sounds of which we need to be careful of: A clicking and ticking sound during the start of the air conditioner indicates that some hardware has got inside the compressor. In fact, you must try and find out whether you can safely remove those bolts or springs from the compressor. A banging sound on the other hand indicates lose parts, motor problems, and a lot of other problems. Hence, you must get in touch with an HVAC professional soon. Banging sound from the compressor is also quite common. The cause is mostly a lose fan blade. The reason could also be worn-out fan blades. Similarly, a squealing sound or a grinding or a rattling sound is also quite common when an air conditioner is operating. In case of the grinding or the rattling sound, the cause could be many but in case if these sounds come from your compressor it means that the AC will soon stop functioning. At the same time, hissing or whistling sound from the AC means improperly installed seals in vents or ducts.
